A Busy spring at the SACSSP
ASASWEI Conference, 2025
On 10 to 12 September 2025, the SACSSP delegation led by the President of the SACSSP, Professor Mbedzi attended the Association of South African Social Work Education Institutions (ASASWEI) International Conference held at the University of the Free State under the theme “Advancing Social, Economic, and Environmental Justice, Peace building, and Sustainable Development through teaching, research and practice”. The President delivered a message of support. The SACSSP’s ICT Officer, Mr Solomon Monene, presented on our new Online Registration System and assisted over 200 delegates in completing the Microsoft Form for the purpose of migrating their profiles into the new Online Registration System.
The SACSSP registration Helpdesk attended to and resolved 56 registration related enquiries.
The SACSSP wishes to congratulate ASASWEI for hosting yet another successful conference. We further congratulate the newly elected Executive Committee, led by Professor Mpumelelo Ncube (Head of Social Work Department at the University of Free State) as the newly elected President of ASASWEI.
NACCW Webinar
On 18 September 2025, the Registrar presented on the new Online Registration System and updating of particulars on the Registers for the purpose of migrating their profiles to a new registration system at the Webinar hosted by the NACCW. Over 300 social service professionals were in attendance.
Solidarity Movement for Social Services Pioneers (SMSSP) Webinar
On 23 September 2025, the Chairperson of the Professional Board for Child and Youth Care Work (PBCYCW), Mr Donald Nghonyama, and the Registrar presented at the Webinar hosted by the SMSSP the theme “Unseen, Unheard, Undervalued: The Untold Struggles of child and youth care workers”. In their presentation, Mr Nghonyama focused on the role of the Professional Board for Child and Youth Care Work, while the Registrar’s focused on the duties of a child and youth care worker towards the profession of child and youth care work. Over 100 child and youth care workers were in attendance.
In memoriam:
The SACSSP and the social service sector at large is moaning the death of Dr Anne Letsebe who passed on 16 September 2025. Dr Letsebe was a registered social worker since 1980 and made a huge contribution towards the se ting of standards for social work and social auxiliary work qualifications in South Africa. In 2016, she was appointed by the SACSSP to serve on the Standard Setting Task Team for social work and social auxiliary work qualifications which produced the standards for Continuing Professional Development, Quality Assurance tool and the Code of Ethics. In 2021, she was appointed to serve on the Quality Assurance Panel and played a pivotal role during the piloting of the quality assuance virtual site visits.
